Mental Health Nursing Clinical Supervisor Database

Get Help Quick Close

This database supports mental health nurses to find a clinical supervisor who aligns with their supervision needs and goals. You can search the database and contact supervisors directly.

All supervisors listed have confirmed that they meet the minimum criteria for mental health nursing supervision. View the supervisor minimum criteria on the apply to be a supervisor in the mental health sector overview.

The Collaborative Centre does not validate individual qualifications or experience. People seeking a supervisor should undertake their own assessment to determine whether a supervisor is the right fit for them.

For allied health practitioners employed by Adult Mental Health Services (AMHS): if you work for an AMHS, read the reciprocal arrangements guidance before applying to be listed. The guidance explains how nurses can access supervisors across different health services.

How to use this database

  1. Search for supervisors using the database
  2. Contact supervisors directly to discuss your needs
  3. Confirm they're the right fit before starting supervision arrangements.

Content use and privacy

The supervisor data is publicly available for the express purpose of supporting people to identify supervision options. The data must not be used for marketing, advertising or other purposes.

Bridget Hamilton

Registered Nurse (mental health nurse qualified)

Hi. I have been a MH nurse since 1986 and I've spent equal time working in clinical services and university settings. I love the relational focus and challenges of MH nursing and I have stayed connected to practice by working at St Vincent's. I also love supervision and have belonged to an interdisciplinary peer supervision group for many years. In my approach to MHN I have always been curious about the extreme experiences of us all as humans, and the meaning we make in our lives. I enjoy exerting effort in being active, creative and thinking. I have a great deal of respect for the unique and creative ways people get by, use our strengths and grow, through tough times. I am refreshed by connecting with friends and family, making art, swimming, cooking and singing.

Julie Sharrock

Registered Nurse (mental health nurse qualified)

I am passionate about clinical supervision as a professional support for nurses. Working as a health professional is psychologically taxing, especially managing the often-intense emotional work of caring for people facing life threatening or life changing health conditions. The systems we work in are also challenging. Engaging in regular, well-structured Clinical Supervision is an effective intervention to support health professionals in this work. Reflecting on practice (after the event) is the work of clinical supervision. Developing skills in reflecting on practice means we become more skilled at reflecting in practice and before practice. This increases our ability to choose our responses to others (be they consumers, carers or staff) in the moment. This decreases our reactivity and the risk of impulsive reactions which results in the increased possibility of helpful communication, less emotional drain, and the ability to practice with awareness.

Registered Nurse

I am a registered mental health nurse with 17 years experience, and a further qualification as a Specialist Community Public Health Nurse. I completed my undergraduate training in the UK, and relocated to Australia in 2018. I was lucky enough to complete a community mental health nursing placement in Brisbane as part of my undergraduate degree, and decided that I would one day return to nurse in Australia. Clinical supervision is a mandatory requirement for all nurses in the UK, and therefore the importance of clinical supervision has been instilled in me from the first day of my nursing career, and is something I continue to find extremely beneficial.

Maggie McIntosh

Registered Nurse (mental health nurse qualified)

I commenced nursing in 1980, initially as a general nurse before quickly moving into mental health nursing. My initial experience was in a group psychotherapy unit in Edinburgh and after migrating to Australia worked in both public and private settings. I moved into practice development and education in 2008 and held management and leadership roles within my organization prior to retiring in early 2022. Systems and family therapy training supported me to navigate and understand the complex mental health settings in which we practice. Clinical supervision has always been part of my practice and has sustained me throughout my career. Providing clinical supervision has been one of the highlights of my work. Honesty, integrity, respect and hard work are core values for me and are integral to my engagement in supervision both as a supervisee and supervisor.

I have also worked with allied health colleagues working in mental health in providing supervision. While I have worked with graduate clinicians through to program managers, my particular interest is working with clinicians who are making the transition in their careers from clinician to clinical leader/manager. That said, I firmly believe that clinical supervision plays a significant role in maintaining the wellbeing of nurses and welcome the opportunity to work with you wherever you find yourself along your professional journey.

Michele Puncher

Registered Nurse

I am a mental nurse recently retired from public health after more than 35 yrs. I’ve worked in all areas of the life cycle in mental health, including inpatient and community and have been a clinical nurse educator over the last ten years. I have skills in clinical settings which include parent /infant work, lactation consultant, postnatal depression, unsettled babies and all the impacts these have on attachment. Through my work with babies and children I developed an interest in dance therapy and applied this for many years in several clinical settings. My experience in adult mental health includes community, case management and MSTS, where I developed skills and understanding of how to work with people who are impacted by substance use issues. Early on in my career I worked in counselling, utilising psychodynamic psychotherapeutic therapy and also developed an understanding of gestalt therapy through my own clinical supervision. I hold a high value of advocacy and empowerment in my work. Unfortunately I only speak one language and hope that my curiosity and acceptance provide a safe , comfortable space , whatever your background.

ROSEMARY CHARLESTON

Registered Nurse (mental health nurse qualified)

I am a mental health nurse with a long history of working in a variety of mental health settings. My focus for the past 17 years has been in mental health workforce development roles. Prior to that I worked in the university sector, and before that in clinical settings. I am passionate about the professional development of other nurses and believe that clinical (strategic/managerial/educational) supervision is a critical and central component of this. I have always engaged in supervision myself, either in individual or group settings, and I am grateful for the significant value add that this has provided me over the years. We learn from each other, regardless of how few or how many years working in mental health; my position is to listen, hear, and support by being available, curious, and questioning.

Shirley Jennings

Registered Nurse

In reflecting on my career as a Mental Health Nurse, spanning more than 45 years, I have had many amazing experiences and opportunities. I have been able to work in a variety of clinical and educational settings, contribute to new practice approaches resulting from major transformations in public mental health in Victoria, and walk alongside consumer activists and leaders. I have a longstanding passion for the essence of education (the facilitation of critical thinking) and leadership (transformational thinking and actions), and I have been a longstanding ally for lived experience colleagues and the emerging lived experience discipline. I am committed to the parallel process of looking after staff so they can continue to care for the consumers and families attending MH services. I believe in creating workplace cultures which proactively protect the mental health of teams and colleagues.
