Jacqui Cousins
About me
Hi, I am Jacqui. I am a Mental Health Nurse Counsellor with 20 years experience working across acute & community health and private practice. I believe trauma-informed care is essential to mental health recovery and my public health training informs my focus on person-centred care, education, and advocacy. I believe variety is the spice of life and laughter is the best medicine! I have been fortunate to find both of these in my career as a community health practitioner.
My experience
After completing a Master of Public Health, I have spent the past 15 years working in community health teams including headspace, complex care and PHN funded programs. I have a special interest in supporting people who are recovering from institutional trauma including medical, religious and workplace trauma.
My current role/work
Both my private and community health practice is providing counselling for people with mental health distress related to chronic illness, carer stress and complex mental health needs. My community health role specialises in supporting women living with chronic pain, of which I am a lived experience counsellor.
My training
I have a Master of Public Health and postgraduate diplomas in Mental Health Nursing and Counselling.
My approach to supervision
My approach to clinical supervision is ‘care for the carer’ and supporting supervisees in the development of their professional and self-care practice. I have found clinical supervision so valuable in my own work so I welcomed my supervisor's recommendation to complete the Bouverie Centre's clinical supervision training. My main goal is to support my colleagues as other supervisors have supported me.
