The use of psychedelics to treat certain mental health conditions is an emerging field which raises many issues around their safe and effective use. Australia is one of the few countries which has legalised psychedelics for use in controlled settings. Collaborative Centre translational researcher Dr Kay Wilson has been involved in an interdisciplinary study (including persons with lived experience) conducted by Monash University, Melbourne University and the Florey Institute to develop draft clinical guidelines for the use of MDMA Assisted Psychotherapy for people with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). A recent publication in the Journal of Affective Disorders sets out the study protocol, and a copy of the draft clinical guidelines which are open for public comment can be found here. The consultation on the guidelines will run until 31 August 2025 for anyone who is interested in providing their input via the feedback form.
