The Collaborative Centre welcomes the announcement of Victoria’s first peer-led mental health service based in Greater Geelong. Designed and delivered by people with lived experience, the new Lived Experience Residential Service will provide an alternative to acute hospital-based care.
Delivered by Mind Australia, the service will provide short-term care and support in a home-like setting. Grounded in the wisdom of lived expertise, the service will guide new and profoundly different approaches to healing, underpinned by consumer-led principles and governance structures.
The service has been funded by the Victorian Department of Health as part of a trial, with evaluation findings to guide future expansion of peer-led mental health services and system transformation.
The service will provide eight beds across two houses on the one site with the first four-bed house opening early next year, and the second house opening by mid-2026.
