Scotty Rees

About me

My name is Scotty Rees. I live near the beautiful beaches of sunny Butchulla Country, Hervey Bay with my two dogs and partner. I'm passionate about meeting people where they are at, listening patiently for people's truth, and supporting people to thrive, wherever they have come from in life. I've worked in many different contexts, especially as an Intentional Peer Support trainer (nationally and internationally) and in non-government organisations, as well as supporting people in my own community. I truly believe no one is better than anyone else, and that everyone deserves to be met with dignity and respect. Recently I've had the immense privilege of sharing about my lived experience and Intentional Peer Support as keynote at an international stigma conference in Malaysia (honestly, never thought life would take me somewhere so fancy!) I rock a blue mohawk (at least my dogs tell me I do) and love to ride my motorbike. You'll find me walking my dogs on the beach most mornings at sunrise.

My experience

I spend time with people in supervision, mentoring and group co-reflection. I also work in group program development, lived experience consulting, education and training. I am passionate about adventure therapy and about working with people who others might have given up on entirely. I worked in direct support roles for many years in community-managed mental health in regional Victoria, before moving up to the sunny state.

My current role/work

For many years I've been working mainly as a national Intentional Peer Support training and co-reflection facilitator. These days I'm moving more into freelance work, including more co-reflection and supervision, training and consulting.

My training

I'm trained in Intentional Peer Support, as well as in Complex Trauma Adventure Therapy. My main training is my own decades of intense experiences, and various different systems, including the mental health system and the criminal justice system. And sharing time with so many people who have helped shape who I am today.

My approach to supervision

Everyone needs something different from supervision, so I try to figure out with people how we can best work together. I won't lie, Intentional Peer Support is a pretty big part of how I show up in the world - it's not just a training to me, it's a way of showing up for other humans. What you can expect is that I'll be real with you, and I'll work to make space where you can show up as authentically yourself, and together we can talk about whatever needs to be talked about. I'm not one to hold back, so if you're just looking for a kind pat on the back, that's not me. I believe passionately in learning and growing together and know I'll learn as much from you as vice versa.
