Molly O'Neill

About me

This supervisor has been approved to provide supervision under the ACCESS TO SUPERVISION PROJECT.

Hi there!

My name is Molly (she/her) and I am a young, warm, and passionate Senior Peer Worker located in Geelong, Victoria. I bring both professional experience and a fresh perspective to my practice, and I approach my work with openness, curiosity, and deep respect for each person’s journey.

I’m aware that lived experience workers come to this field from many different life stages and backgrounds, and I value the richness this brings to supervision. I have a wide range of experiences in accessing mental health services, both voluntarily and involuntarily, which informs my work as a consumer peer worker and supervisor. I am a strong advocate for lived experience representation, workforce inclusion, human rights, and social justice, and I’m not afraid of hard or meaningful conversations. Empathy, authenticity, and mutual learning guide everything I do.

Outside of work, I’m a dog mum to two boisterous, energetic, very clingy pups. I also enjoy weightlifting, napping, meditation and op-shopping (how good is a bargain!), with my ultimate guilty pleasure being watching reality TV. Much of my time and energy outside of work is spent navigating chronic illness, fatigue, and pain, which gives me lived insight into balancing wellbeing with the demands and emotional weight of peer work.

This supervisor has been approved to provide supervision under the ACCESS TO SUPERVISION PROJECT. If you are a supervisee who has received an approval email/letter from the CMHL you may contact this supervisor for supervision for this project, then follow the stated processes for supervision payment.

My experience

I have been part of the consumer workforce for the past eight years and I most enjoy mentoring other lived experience workers and supporting organisations to improve their current ways of working. My background includes lived experience-specific roles across public health and the community sector, including youth residential services, NDIS support, and a Medicare-funded mental health drop-in centre. I also have experience facilitating groups and contributing to project and service development.

My current role/work

I currently work part-time as a Senior Peer Worker in the Emergency Department at Barwon Health, a role I commenced in June 2026. I am deeply committed to improving the experience of people accessing support in crisis settings, and my work focuses on helping individuals navigate the often challenging public mental health system. In the ED, I offer peer support, advocacy, and a compassionate listening ear to people during some of their most challenging moments.

I also facilitate education sessions for medical and allied health staff on the lived experience workforce and the role of peer work within a multidisciplinary team. These sessions aim to strengthen collaboration and deepen understanding of lived experience perspectives in emergency care.

In addition to my ED work, I provide consumer perspective supervision both within my workplace and externally to lived experience workers across Australia. My supervision practice is grounded in Intentional Peer Support, reflective practice, and the belief that lived experience knowledge is essential to creating humane, person-led mental health systems.

My approach to supervision

Utilising the principles of Intentional Peer Support, I believe that building a mutual and trusting connection is central to meaningful supervision. Even in my role as a supervisor, I hold firmly that we are all experts in our own lives, and I aim to work alongside you to shape a supervision style that genuinely supports your needs.

As lived experience workers, we bring so much of ourselves and our histories into the work, and the line between our personal journey and our professional practice can often feel interconnected. I am open to exploring this together in ways that feel safe for you, including how the work may be impacting your wellbeing and how your experiences shape your practice.

I take a gentle approach in sessions, using curiosity, reflection, and empathy to navigate challenges collaboratively. And, of course, a sprinkling of humour is an essential part of creating ease and connection in supervision.
