Emma Faulkner

About me

This supervisor has been approved to provide supervision under the ACCESS TO SUPERVISION PROJECT.

I am a lively, bubbly person who appreciates humor, in-depth conversations about life and sitting in the depths of the unknown. I am a passionate person who thrives on the adventure and wildness that life brings us. I've learnt that life will teach us big lessons whether we are ready for it or not. I would say I've adapted to these moments and leant to navigate my feelings when life seems overwhelming. I love to spend my spare time reading books, camping, wakeboarding, drinking coffee and sunset watching.

My experience

I have worked in the mental health field for over 9+ years, running programs, and connecting with individuals and communities around mental health. In this role I have lead several teams of peer workers which has allowed me to create change within a community, and influence a work force of peer workers who are passionate, and are confident in using their lived experience and running groups. I have also created and delivered training about our personal stories and how we can share them with purpose and intent. Alongside my work and lived experience I have spent my time studying with my most recent degree in Master's of Counselling which I now use as a lived experience counsellor since June 2021

My current role/work

I currently navigate several roles at Brook RED, from Senior peer worker overseeing staff in a community mental health Centre. I am also a lived experience counsellor and lived experience supervisor. I also developed and deliver the 'Sharing our story with purpose and intent' training

My approach to supervision

My passion for supervision is born out of the curiosity for the human experience and how we relate to the world around us. Supervision is a guiding light in our practice when we feel lost, overwhelmed or ready to challenge and grow our skills. It is important to be able to talk about how our lived experience is influencing our work and how we want to offer our lived experience to others. Supervision has allowed me to feel more comfortable and confident in my work, and aim to offer this to the people I work with.

I love working along side the people I supervise, with my values around being curious, trustworthy, honest, and humorous along the way. I may challenge ideas and ask big questions that make us think.

I believe that supervision is a space for humans to unpack and explore all things work and life in our work. It is a space for supervisees to reflect on themselves and create a framework of practice that is genuine and unique to them, that values the lived experience perspective. Supervision is a space to feel heard and understood, particularly in a world where change is vital for human experience and growth
