Amanda Cuthbert
About me
Hello, my name is Amanda Cuthbert, and my pronouns are she/her. I have worked in mental health and community services for the past nine years and have extensive experience working in senior peer roles. I draw on my lived experience of mental health, neurodivergence, and queerness to respond to intersectional and dynamic emotions and challenges that arise from both work and life. I understand that lived experience/peer work is deeply personal work and value creating a supervision space that invites honest reflection, self-compassion and shared growth.
Before working in mental health and community services, I worked as an events and media photographer. Compassion, curiosity, and creativity inform everything I do. In my spare time, I enjoy social dancing, tinkering with analogue cameras, listening to music and podcasts, and spending time with friends and family.
My experience
I have worked across various sectors, including government and non-government, homelessness, domestic and family violence, rural and remote, peer work, NDIS, youth, alcohol and other drugs, inpatient, and urgent care. I appreciate the challenges and rewards of hustling as peer workers in clinical settings, and I'm passionate about transdisciplinary advocacy: it's possible, it's powerful, it changes lives.
I am dedicated to the development of innovative and peer-led community groups and services that foster compassion, respect, equity and accessibility. I have spoken at national forums such as TheMHS Annual Conference, and consulted for projects and initiatives, such as the National Autism Strategies Action Plan.
My current role/work
I currently work as a counsellor and supervisor for NeuroBeyond Counselling Services and CONNECTcare Private, Summit Health.
My training
Master of Narrative Therapy and Community Work
Bachelor of Visual Arts
Certificate IV in Mental Health
My approach to supervision
Peer supervision can provide an opportunity to pause and reflect on our work within a collaborative, mutual, and non-judgmental space. Within peer supervision, Amanda believes in cultivating an environment where we can openly explore both the joys and challenges that arise from our lived experience. Her supervision approach is grounded in curiosity, compassion, and responsibility, providing gentle challenge and authentic support.
