People with intellectual disability experience high rates of mental illness yet often have difficulty in accessing services and getting appropriate treatment. This workshop will explore the reasons for this and cover some of the modifications to practice that can be made to account for this.

For 25 years the Collab brings together Mental Health Nurses, lived experience advocates, and industry leaders to share breakthroughs, inspire change, and celebrate the everyday heroes of mental health care. The Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule Second Edition (ADOS-2) is a semi-structured, standardised assessment of communication, social interaction, and play. It provides a series of standardised contexts in which the individual's social communication, and repetitive, stereotyped behaviours can be observed. It has been designed to assist in the diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder and is a complementary instrument to the Autism Diagnostic Interview Revised (ADI-R). Standardised toys and activities are used to present opportunities for social and communicative interaction with the examiner. A diagnostic algorithm consistent with DSM-V and ICD-10 clinical diagnoses is generated.

This one-day online workshop focuses on the child and adolescent age group and encompasses skill development in the following areas: - Using Positive Behaviour Support within a neuroaffirming framework - Understanding behaviours of concern and how to create a supportive environment for neurodivergent people - Collaborative problem solving with the young person and carers - Creating an autism specific profile and behaviour support plan - Finding the function of a behaviour of concern - Supporting the development of new skills to promote independence and quality of life.

The ADI-R is a semi-structured diagnostic interview to assess behaviours related to Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The ADI-R typically takes between 90 minutes to 3 hours. The course is designed to teach clinicians how to administer and code ADI-R with parents/carers of children and young people with suspected autism.
