About me

I am an endorsed Nurse Practitioner currently moving from the public system and focusing on private practice.

I have worked in a variety of roles during my career enabling me to have insight into a wide range of mental health nursing skills and knowledge .

I am interested in ensuring that Mental Health nurses in Australia are recognised for their specialist skills and receive opportunities that foster support and development in the profession and promote best practice.

My experience

I have been working in Mental Health field for more than 35 years. After completing a certificate in General Nursing in Australia, I completed a certificate in Mental Health Nursing in the UK. This training was grounded in a person-centred approach to nursing care. After gaining my original RMN qualifications I worked in Forensic Mental Health and Community Mental Health Services in the UK.

In Australia I have worked in advanced practice roles in Community Mental Health Teams (NUM, CNC, NP), and Primary Care (MHNIP, NP), Mental Health leadership and management roles in NSW Local Health Districts and worked as a Mental Health Academic (USyd).

My approach to supervision

While generally subscribing to the three-function interactive framework of supervision (Proctor 1987) I believe that supervision relies on the relationship developed between the Supervisor and Supervisee.

I believe that the Supervisee is the lead in directing the goals for the Supervision relationship. I enjoy the role of supervisor and assisting in people to develop their skills and scope.
