Daniella Watson

About me

I am a registered mental health nurse originally from the UK with 11 years experience. I initially completed by BSc in Psychology and worked in ASD research before completing by MSc in Mental Health Nursing in 2014 and further qualifications in forensic behavioural science.

I moved to Melbourne in 2016 and have remained a passionate mental health nurse here ever since.

My experience

I have worked in a variety of ares of mental health nursing in both the UK and Melbourne including acute adult mental health, prevention and recovery care, dual disability, forensic mental health and nursing education

My current role/work

Currently I work in mental health nursing education with a focus on the early career nursing portfolio in Austin Health.

My training

I have participated in several clinical supervision courses and receive individual clinical supervision on a monthly basis.

I remain passionate about continuing to update my skills in clinical supervision and attend training updates where available.

My approach to supervision

Clinical supervision is a mandatory requirement for mental health nurses in the UK, therefore it has been a staple of my practice since before I even qualified and remains something I find essential for my practice. I want to support the access for others to also gain this benefit for their practice.

I have a strong belief that supervision is most effective when you are able to maintain a strong trusting partnership with your supervisor who enables supportive self-reflection. This belief recognises that it is important to find a supervisor that is the right fit and that sometimes means trying different supervisors.

I use a combination of supervision models including Proctor's 3 function model, strengths based and solution focused models.
