Stefan Tegelj

About me

This supervisor has been approved to provide supervision under the ACCESS TO SUPERVISION PROJECT.

Hi, I’m Stefan (he/him) and I’m a senior consumer peer worker based in Melbourne. I am passionate about advocacy in the mental health peer workforce. For most of my adult life, I was involved in social justice and advocacy campaigns. In 2018 a friend suggested working in peer support, which completely changed my career direction (for the better!).

As a peer worker, I have predominantly supported people with an eating disorders through one-on-one community support and specialised support groups.

My practice is underpinned by my personal lived experiences of an eating disorder, chronic illness, mental health challenges, as well as identities of being LGBTQIA+, neurodivergent and from a migrant background.

I also studied film and television and have interests in dance, design and languages.

This supervisor has been approved to provide supervision under the ACCESS TO SUPERVISION PROJECT. If you are a supervisee who has received an approval email/letter from the CMHL you may contact this supervisor for supervision for this project, then follow the stated processes for supervision payment.

My experience

I have provided discipline specific supervision since 2021 and I completed Consumer Perspective Supervision training in 2022.

At Eating Disorders Victoria (EDV), I supported a team of casual and part-time peer workers, including overseeing the development of a new supervision framework for lived experience staff, provide professional development and group and individual supervision Consumer Perspective Supervision (CPS).

I also provided consultation, recommendations and advocacy for LLEW within EDV and externally through co-designs, collaborations and committees.

My training

  • 2022 - Consumer Perspective Supervision (CPS)
  • 2022 - Intentional Peer Support (IPS)
  • 2024 - Single Session Thinking (SST)
  • 2026 - Hearing Voices Approach

My approach to supervision

I aim to create a space where people feel confident to explore their expertise, reflect on challenges, and continue developing their practice. I want to provide a space that adapts to the needs of the person, whether its a place to debrief or work through ethical dilemmas and self advocacy.

My approach is informed not only by CPS and IPS, but by the many lessons I've learnt from fellow LLEW colleagues and peers. I like to work in a way that is tailored to the individual, with a focus on shared understanding, openness, honesty, and curiosity.

I see learning as an ongoing process and I believe mutuality is central to good practice.
