About me
This supervisor has been approved to provide supervision under the ACCESS TO SUPERVISION PROJECT.
Hi folks, My name is Jess (she/they). I currently live in Geelong (Djilang - Wathaurong country), Vic. I am a creative and also a huge nerd! I like to think of myself as a self-taught painter, and mostly I have been using oils (I love the richness of the colour). I like to think of myself as an activist, I have spent time in the world of eco-activism, land rights activism and just getting out on the streets and amongst communities. In my downtime I love a good video game, and have been known to table top game tee hee I have a small family which includes myself, my partner and my step son. I like to think that my values are centred around justice and connection. In a previous life I spent many years as a chef and in the hospo industry. Nowadays I consider myself queer. I am also neuro-spicy and am really interested in non-traditional modes of connecting and being in space together. I am a polynesian woman, born outside of culture and inside of the colony; so this has played a role in my life and in my practice. Looking forward to meeting you!

My experience
I have spent about 10 years in the consumer perspective space. I started as a peer support worker and transitioned into a senior peer role with my practice experience sitting squarely in clinical setting. I have worked across multiple national projects providing consumer perspective and supporting/facilitating co-design. I have designed, developed and implemented education and programs grounded in Lived Experience ways of knowing (governance models, concepts and theories).
I support the ongoing delivery of Consumer Perspective Supervision training with Inside out and really love discipline-specific training.
My current role/work
I am currently working at Mind Australia as part of their Lived Experience workforce team.
My role currently leads me in all types of directions. I am currently responsible for the development, provision and integration of co-reflection.
I facilitate Intentional Peer Support training for folks both currently and newly arrived into LE roles
My role leads me to support folks nationally, holding responsibility for LE practice knowledge building and integration across WA, SA, NSW and QLD.
I support HR in the development of recruitment packs, position descriptions and in supporting folks in LE roles.
I often am a conduit between our disciplines knowledge-base and the service. I am a huge advocate for LE workers and what we do. This is my hearts work
My training
I have participated in Alt2su, Consumers Leading in Governance and Consumer Perspective Supervision training.
I am a trained Intentional Peer Support trainer and currently run inside of organisation training for LE workforce
I have completed Human Rights from the Top
My approach to supervision
My supervision is grounded in the CPS framework. I have a very special interest in relational practice, and often lean on our IPS practice principles and tasks to inform the space. It is my intention that we build relationships which are strong and safe enough to contain all that we experience as LE workforce. I like to make meaning together, but seek to support folks to be the experts of their own experience (as we already are). I believe really firmly in autonomy and seek to work mutually to get to a place where we can navigate together. Connection fills my cup, and so I love to think that my supervision is grounded in connection.
I am open to understanding what it is that you need from a supervision relationship. I can do structure, but I am also open to free-flowing. I like my supervision to mirror what we do in peer support.
I have a broad experience in our discipline and so have lots of thoughts to gather around, and am interested to hear yours. I am interested in solidarity but also in the finer grain detail of our work. I love a good puzzle, but am also happy to sit in the funk of what we do. I hope to be an ally with supervisees.
