As a Consumer Peer Worker employed in public mental health services for more than 9 years, I had the opportunity to work in both youth and adult community mental health settings. As a culturally and linguistically diverse woman, child of a refugee and identified Vietnamese Australian growing up in Melbourne Australia, I hold the experience of navigating the Victorian mental health system as a Consumer while also being a survivor of family violence, feeling unsafe and faced homelessness. I not only provide a wealth of expertise that comes from traditional education but I also hold credible lived experience that highlights the nuances of intersectionality of being a person of lived experience of mental ill health, Carer for a family member who struggles with mental ill health, being culturally and linguistically diverse and navigating life while learning to embrace the value of both individualistic and collectivist cultures.

As a CPS Supervisor I will be adopting the Consumer Perspective Supervision (CPS) framework from Inside Out and Associates Australia that allows me to practice CPS using a consumer lens approach which invites co-learning and professional growth in the space of being consumer lived experience practitioner. Supervision sessions will focus on the Supervisee's need to navigate an issue, an ethical dilemma and concern that merit supervision from an external provider. It's a confidential space that promotes both Supervisor and Supervisee a third space that expands on knowledge, skillset, worldview and lived experience that promotes collaboration for shared learning. As a CPS Supervisor, I will approach the session using a person-centred approach, while also engaging in CPS theory framework and current/past work experience which invites collective lived insights to take place. I hope by providing this space for Supervision, Peer Workers feel equipped, supported and confident in undertaking their designated roles as Lived Experience Workers.
