Mindful - Autism Clinical Interview for Adults (ACIA) - Oct

The Autism Clinical Interview for Adults (ACIA) is a semi-structured interview tool that can be used to support Autism diagnostic assessment for people aged 16+. Consisting of a questionnaire and interview, the assessment tool covers autism traits, strengths and difficulties, and co-occurring physical and mental health conditions.

What does the training include? 
This two-hour live webinar introduces the ACIA as an assessment tool. During this workshop you will:

• Learn about the development and evidence base for the ACIA
• Learn about the key components of the ACIA assessment
• Explore the Pre-Interview Questionnaires and ACIA Subject and Informant versions of the main interview
• Discuss administration and use in clinical practice
• Observe video material of experienced clinicians administering the tool.

Following training, participants will be provided with the official materials to utilise the ACIA in their diagnostic practice. 

Training materials will be sent 1-2 weeks prior to the workshop date.

Prerequisite training 
Adult Autism Introductory 
To be eligible for this training participants are required to have completed the Adult Autism Introductory Course (online on-demand training module), or the one-day live webinar Adult Autism Introductory (offered 2019 - 2022). Please see our FAQs for further information.

Who is the training for? 
Mental health clinicians and other professionals working with adults, e.g. psychologists, social workers, speech pathologists, occupational therapists, mental health nurses, headspace clinicians, psychiatrists and registrars.

Who provides the training? 
Johanna (Jo) Rouse is a Lecturer with the Mindful Autism Program. Jo is a senior occupational therapist and was previously the Autism Coordinator at Orygen Youth Health. Jo has extensive experience in providing individual, group and family interventions for young people with autism and co-occurring mental health conditions.

Dr Emma Radford is a Consultant Psychiatrist at The Royal Melbourne Hospital. She works in General Adult Psychiatry and with the Mental Health Autism Consultation & Evaluation Service (MH-ACES). 
Dr Radford has a particular interest in the diagnostic assessment of autism in adults and meeting the unique needs of neurodivergent consumers presenting to mental health services.
