Overview

Autistic people experience high rates of mental illness yet often have difficulty in accessing services and getting appropriate treatment. This workshop explores the relationship between autism and mental health concerns, and the screening and management of autism in people with serious mental illness.

 

Aims & Objectives

By the end of this workshop you will be able to:

  • Identify autism and common co-morbid mental health conditions.
  • Recognise how autism may influence the presentation of mental health symptoms.
  • Understand risk factors contributing to poor mental health outcomes.
  • Understand how autism traits and mental health symptoms overlap.
  • Explore mental health assessment, intervention & services for autistic people.
