This online workshop is open to staff working in Victorian Area Mental Health Services(Including CYMHS, Specialist, and Adult and Aged services) seeking information about the assessment and management of intellectual disability and mental health.  

 

Overview

People with intellectual disability experience high rates of mental illness yet often have difficulty in accessing services and getting appropriate treatment. This workshop will explore the reasons for this and cover some of the modifications to practice that can be made to account for this. 

 

Aims & Objectives 

By the end of the workshop you will be able to:

  • Understand the relationship between intellectual disability and mental illness.
  • Be confident in recognising and screening for mental health problems.
  • Understand the service environment in assessing and managing mental health problems experienced by people with intellectual disability.
  • And understand and be able to implement reasonable adjustments.
