Diversity in gender identity and sexuality are a part of the natural spectrum of human diversity. This seminar will explore diversity in gender identity within a framework of healthy development, as well as considering how acceptance, support and education can be protective for young people in the LGBTIQA+SB community. Aims of this seminar include:
- to gain confidence in discussing and exploring themes of diversity in gender identity and sexual orientation with young people.
- to explore ways of affirming and supporting young people, and how this can be protective for their mental health and social relationships.
- to consider how LGBTI+ young people are at increased risk of psycho-social adversity and how this may be integrated in your case formulations, including recognition of gender dysphoria.
- to help you think broadly about supports and treatment planning with young people and their families.
A case example will be explored to help you consider how this information may be applied.
