This 5.5-hour live webinar looks at attachment theory, and current knowledge about attachment in autistic children and youth. Assessment and treatment using attachment models will be addressed. Key learning objectives are:

  • What is attachment & why is it important?
  • What is the difference between an attachment disorder and insecure attachment?
  • What do we know about autism, attachment, and trauma?
  • Ways of supporting parent-child attachment when a child is autistic

 

Who is the training for?

Mental health clinicians and other professionals working with autistic children and young people, e.g. psychologists, social workers, speech pathologists, occupational therapists, mental health nurses, paediatricians, psychiatrists and registrars.

 

Who provides the training?

Dr Jennifer Harrison is consultant psychiatrist for the Alfred Child and Youth Mental Health Service’s Neurodevelopmental Stream. Her role includes work with the Developmental Assessment and Management Program and the Neuropsychiatry Clinic. Jennifer works with children and youth presenting with complex attachment and trauma in the context of neurodevelopmental conditions. She also holds honorary appointments at Monash University and The Dax Centre, University of Melbourne.
