Theories of Learning

“I believe that as educators we have a professional obligation to keep up to date with the latest thinking in teaching and learning, which includes theory. I also believe that educators should be qualified to teach as being a health care professional often does not mean you know how to teach but only how to be a health care professional. Teaching and learning have their own evidence base and pedagogy which is separate from other professional discourses. If, like me, you believe that teaching is powerful and can change the lives of leaners, then we have an obligation to understand teaching deeply, which starts with the theory that underpins it. In fact, most reputable teaching qualifications start with the theory of teaching and learning.”  Brown (year)

By drawing from theories such as behaviorism, cognitivism, constructivism, and humanism, educators can design curriculum and instructional strategies that cater to diverse learner needs and learning styles.
