“Assessment is an essential part of learning. It has the potential to show whether learning has taken place, and to direct the nature and content of learning. Learners make their learning choices paying careful attention to their upcoming assessments. They can also learn from the assessment experience and the assessment outcome. Thus, assessments can be designed to support learning in several ways: to plan learning (assessment for learning), to promote learning (assessment as learning), or to test learning (assessment of learning).”
